Who are your favorite authors? What do your students like? I absolutely love Jerry Spinelli and Gary Soto. I think students can really relate to their characters and the stories are believable and captivating.

I've recently heard about the "Bluford Series" of books from Townsend Press. Has any teachers used these books in their classrooms? Please share! :-)

I stumbled upon a great book and my 8th grade students absolutely loved it! "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli is about a high schooler named Leo who becomes fascinated with a whimsical new student who calls herself Stargirl. It's a beautiful book that touches the heart and makes students ponder about the choices they have to make in their young lives.

I suggest this book for middle schoolers and perhaps even 9th graders.
